What is a heavy-duty baler?
A heavy-duty baler operates in much the same way as our standard machines, compressing loose recyclables into dense, manageable bales using a hydraulic ram. The key difference lies in the build, which brings a bit of extra muscle to take on tougher materials with ease.
Boasting heavier-gauge steel, reinforced chambers, and stronger full-stroke rams, these models have the durability needed to process tougher or more abrasive materials without incurring excessive wear. They’re also equipped with additional rows of retaining teeth, which help grip and hold material in the chamber, reducing the spring-back effect often associated with springy or bulky recyclables. Plus, because they feature higher compaction forces and extended cycle capabilities, they produce denser bales from materials that might otherwise resist compression.

What materials does it bale?
Most Riverside balers are used to compact cardboard, paper, plastic film, and other dry recyclables. However, some of our larger and more powerful models are also suitable for denser or more specialist materials, including rigid plastics like PET and HDPE, light metals like aluminium cans, and textiles from production or returns processing. The right machine depends not only on the material itself, but also on the volume generated, available space, and how you need the finished bale to be handled.
