Bluebird Engineering Solutions has taken delivery of an RWM500 waste baler at its North Yorkshire headquarters. The company – a producer of large component parts for the bus and coach manufacturing industry – has invested in this mill sized machine from Riverside Waste Machinery, on a three year rental agreement. Ideal for the bulky cardboard packaging waste that Bluebird Engineering Solutions handles on a weekly basis, this baler will improve on-site waste storage and tidiness, whilst enhancing the firm’s approach to recycling. Moreover, the new equipment looks set to recoup significant financial savings for the Scarborough business moving forward. Bluebird Engineering Solutions was typically paying waste collection fees of £400 a month, for rear end loader skip lifts. But the same waste contractor will now collect the neatly compacted 400kg bales – bound with strapping wire – free of charge. Even when accounting for the £230 per month baler rental fee, this leaves Bluebird £170 per month better off. And that’s before a cardboard rebate of £45 per tonne (on average), is recouped. Commenting on the investment in its approach to waste handling, Bluebird Engineering Solutions’ production manager Iain Muir said: “We are always looking at alternative ways to work smarter and more efficiently, therefore I knew we could adopt a more responsible and no doubt cost-effective way to handle our large packaging ‘waste’. “We conducted industry research into the best-fit waste machinery for our needs, and a recommendation steered us towards Riverside. They carried out a simple waste audit over the phone, before sending an easy-to-digest proposal with varied procurement options. The monetary savings alone made this decision a no brainer, but aiding the more effective recycling of our cardboard materials eases our environmental conscience too. We’ll also now spend less time keeping our yard clean and tidy, which makes for more productive on-site operations all round.” The RWM500 has been supplied with a fully-inclusive service and breakdown cover agreement.
