Riverside Waste Machinery is thrilled to announce that it has sold another of its robust RWM 500 balers to A. F. Blakemore & Son Ltd. Not only is A. F. Blakemore one of Riverside’s longest standing customers but the grocery wholesaler is also one of its largest.
Commenting on the new purchase Riverside managing director Jonathan Oldfield said: “We are always pleased when one of our balers is selected by a company but it’s particularly satisfying when an existing customer comes back again and again!
“We’ve supplied A. F. Blakemore with 14 machines over the past few years ranging from our smaller RWM 75s up to our larger RWM 500 models. The most recent purchase was a RWM 500 mill size baler which is being used to compact paper, cardboard and plastic waste at the company’s Middleborough depot.”
A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd is one of the largest and most forward thinking family-owned grocery businesses in the UK. The company began life in 1917 as a counter service grocery store and has grown from humble beginnings into a company that now employs more than 7,500 people and has a turnover in excess of £1.1 billion.
With retail, warehouse and distribution operations across the country A.F. Blakemore is all too aware of the lead it must take in recycling as much of the waste materials it produces as possible. The company has set high recycling standards for itself and encourages customers and suppliers to do likewise.
“We receive over 40 deliveries of groceries a week just at this one depot,” explains Middlesbrough depot manager Tim Cronin. “All of our waste paper, cardboard and plastic is baled and then sold. With over 20 bales every month being purchased by our waste processing partners we are disposing of our waste in a responsible and environmentally-positive manner and generating income at the same time – it makes good business sense.
“Recycling is something the whole company feels very strongly about. In the past 12 months A. F. Blakemore has recycled on average 92% of our waste with some depots achieving even higher figures. Having reliable and efficient equipment to do the job is imperative and we know with Riverside’s machines and consumables we’ll get just that.”
