Wrexham-based AST Plastic Containers (AST) has invested in an RWM 450 HD baler from Riverside Waste Machinery, as the company prepares for 20% growth over the next 12 months.
A part of the global AST Group established in 1977 – with additional production plants and warehouses across Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands – the UK base has existed for almost a decade.
The firm provides premium quality plastic containers – including bottles, barrels and canisters – for the transportation and storage of hazardous liquids, and is a trusted supplier in the food and chemical industries.
Due to the production of excess cardboard, plastic bags, and film, AST first invested in two Riverside balers in 2018. But as the volume of waste has increased over time – due to continued growth at the plant – a larger model was required, to deal more effectively with the additional materials and ensure maintenance of a tidy site.
Matthias Hochholzer, managing director at AST, said: “We were very happy with our existing Riverside Waste balers, but due to organic company expansion, the need for a larger model gradually became more urgent.”
“As a previous satisfied customer of Riverside’s products, we were once again keen to do business with Jonathan and his team. The quality and price of the machines are very good, and the service offered – always polite and helpful – is exceptional.”
The new model – which boasts an impressive 30 tonne press force – has provided the highly eco-conscious brand with a more robust recycling solution, producing approximately three 250kg bales per week, which are then collected and sent for onward recycling.
With a dedicated space for the storage of bales, AST now benefits from a neater and safer factory – and thanks to revenue received for bales, expects to see a return on its baler investment in less than two years.
Matthias continued: “Not only does the larger baler enable us to fulfil our business recycling targets – importantly it boosts health and safety standards, by reducing the potential hazards caused by excess waste on site.
“Our contract includes an annual service and maintenance package, giving us complete peace of mind in the purchase made. Baling saves time, reduces accident risks, and empowers a more productive workforce, all of which boost our bottom line.”
Based in Harrogate, Riverside is a UK-wide supplier of waste machinery – including balers and compactors. Established in 1997, the company also provides training to users of baling equipment, and has an online shop offering consumables and accessories to those in the waste industry.
